Hello, Due to the foreclosure of my home I am looking out for townhouse / 2 bed room apartment in metro-west area. I have seen some apts including Avalon Shrewsbury and I find it to be good. Since I need to finalize an apartment within a month, I would appreciate if someone can provide feedback about the apartment/management as well as location? Tx Jackie

I am an ex-resident of Avalon Shrewsbury. It is a decent apt. located in a nice location. But rent is expensive. Everything was good till we gave the final move-out notice. Once you decide to move out they will find way too many reasons to levy penalty and rob your security deposit. They will do micro-inspection and find fault with almost everything, even though you maintain the apartment very neat and clean. It seems their strategy is to utilize the so-called "refundable security deposit" for the renovation of new apartment. When you read the move-out check list all the pleasant experience will vanish into thin air. Personally I haven̢۪t seen such a bad behavior with any other apartment management. I am not sure if there is any change in the management in the past 1-2 years. There are plenty of decent apt in Shrewsbury including Haynes Farms, Shrewsbury Commons etc and personally I will not recommend Avalon. It is a rip-off in the name of luxury apartments.

I agree with the above comment. Being a mother of 2 kids, we maintained the apartment crisp and clean. But ultimately at the time of our move-out, during inspection they marked almost every item in the exhaustive checklist as dirty. It was a shock to end up losing the deposit $$. It is disgusting to see the exhaustive move-out checklist marked with their nasty comments. The attitude of Avalon Shrewsbury management is very clear from their documents... When you sign-in the lease document it says "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" is acceptable. But the final move-out notice says "APARTMENT SHOULD BE RETURNED AS-IS". What a change in behavior :( You cannot argue / negotiate for every point noted in the checklist... coz they mark 90% of the items as not clean or dirty. When you move-in property manager will walk you through the apartment and make you hurry up to sign the move-in form. So if you still decide to move-in, note two things. 1. Take your own time to note down every minute details in the apartment, whether it is a small stain / mark; scratch in floor etc. 2. Even after doing point#1, be ready to forfeit the deposit $$$. It is not only my experience, check with anyone who has moved out in the past couple of years. You will hear the same experience. Not sure if this practice is done in all Avalon community or only with Avalon Shrewsbury. My suggestion is to stay away from Avalon Shrewsbury.
