I want to run a non profit. Should I get an MA in non profit management or an MPA or MPP?
I want to run a non profit later in my career. Since i am in my mid 20's I figure now is the time to go back to school. I don't want to waste my time if I don't need a degree or by getting the wrong one.

Many people who run nonprofit organizations have a degree in whatever the nonprofit's area of expertise is: education, theater, social work, public health, etc. So a better choice, in my opinion, would be for you to choose a Masters in the area of nonprofit work you want to specialize in, something that you feel passionate about and are ready to be "married" to. Coupled with a LOT of work experience at nonprofit organizations (including fundraising, marketing and financial management experience), as well as, perhaps, a certificate in nonprofit management, you might be a very attractive candidate for a board of directors to hire to head a nonprofit organization some day.

It is not mandatory to have a degree to run a non profit.Only a zeal and commitment to the cause are necessary !!

I am halfway through my MPA. There are several options. You never need a degree to run a non-profit but there are some courses that might be helpful. There are several other options as well. At my school there is also a certificate program for non-profit if you don't want the whole degree. Public policy, is more for the public sector areas like government. If that is your interest, go that route. If you want non-profit, go MPA and you might be able to work the certificate (emphasis basically) in non-profit management.
