Is it worth getting my Master's degree in Communications

Is it worth getting my Master's degree in Communications?
I will soon be receiving my Bachelor's in Communications with a focus in Advertising. Now I'm debating on whether I should go straight into the workforce after college or go to Graduate School to receive my Master's. I realize that it is more common to receive an MA in some majors than others (business, etc). So, I'm basically wondering if there are clear advantages with getting an MA in Communications (ease of getting a job, better salary, etc) or some kind of related MA (possibly Management?) or if I shouldn't bother getting an MA with this Bachelor's at all. Thanks!

Thats my degree!! yeah for you!! hehe it is worth it-- but i am stopping on my BA and focusing on experience. But I am alread 26 and havent finished my BA! a lot of advertising jobs I looked into asked for M.A's so I know it would help. HOwever they also asked for experience...so if you can work on both that would be SUBLIME! You should probably decide which area you really want to get into...then research it more. I want to do advertising and PR consulting and experience is WAY more important. However if its not consulting and more Marketing, Advertising Managers and Producers then education more valuable

Go for it. Education is never a waste.

I would think that you would do better to go into the workforce and get some experience rather then more education.

economy sucks. no it wouldn't be worth it

You should do your masters in another field, I think majoring in English would be good, im a broadcasting major and all of the people I have met in the field have major in English bc you always need good writers .

This answer comes from inside yourself do you think what you want to do with yourself in the future will come closer to coming true if you get your masters in communications. Also in my opinion any degree is a good degree. Lastly as long as your are CURRENTLY financially able to pay for your collage education then who will hurt.

What do you want to do with the degree? I got my bachelor's in communications and eventually ended up working as a creative in advertising. It took me about 6 months to realize it wasn't really for me. While I now have it as a backup my advertising experience is basically moot. So my advice to you would be, try to think about what you want to do with your degree and try it. If you don't like it you won't have wasted another 2 years on something you don't want to do. Good luck.

DEfinitely go for it. More education you have the likely you will get more job offers.

I have a LLB degree from Pakistan and MA in International relation. What kind of job can I get in UK?
I have done both above mentioned degrees in 1996 and now settled in UK. I am trying to find work or courses that will help me get a better paying job. Please let me know if an MBA will be better or how to convert my LLB degree so I can get something other than minimum wage. My experience is in property management and adminstration. Thank you in advance

Which MSc/MA in Financial Economics is the best

Which MSc/MA in Financial Economics is the best?
Hello! I'm an AB Management Economics senior in the Philippines, and I'm planning to take up an MSc/MA in Financial Economics. I found graduate schools in UK and in Europe that offer the said degree program, but I don't know which one to take. Kindly answer my question based on the ff criteria: a. prestige of school/degree program b. courses offered/required to take c. fees and the likelihood of getting financial aid d. likelihood of being hired after completing the program Thank you very much!

Hello. a, b, and c depend largely on the school which can be found through searches (you're doing great) c and d depend largely on you.

Hello - A number of years ago, a study of the employment-connection between the prestige of the undergraduate institution and/or the graduate institution, and the job market showed that at most the "name" school helps you get your first job. If you are returning to the Philippines, prestige is even more amorphous. I'd suggest graduate study in any major university in the UK or Spain, because of the language connections to your career. You need to contact the Philippine Dept of Education to determine what, if any, aid is available to you for study abroad. Keep in mind that a graduate degree also qualifies you to be a college/university instructor. British universities are well-known for welcoming foreign students. I received my LLM at University of Edinburgh [wonderful place, but remarkably cold]. I had been offered the same program at Exeter and I think i would have enjoyed myself more. Of course, if you can get into Oxford or Cambridge, by all means take it. And the London School of Economics may be just the place for you. Good luck

It depends which course best suits your career plan, having done a few Management courses in the past, and a postgraduate course 5 years ago in management, I think that the International Management course would have the most benefits with a wider area of expertise. That's just my opinion, which to be honest isn't worth a lot. Your choice is picking the best course for you, compare the prospectus from each course, decide which is best for you. Each Uni must be having Open days soon for new students, go and find out, have a look around. Search the web for the student union blog, most uni's have them, you can find out a lot of information about courses and how good they are from the students themselves. Good luck with your decision.
